A collaboration between European organisations to strengthen the inclusion of refugees throughout Europe using formal an informal learning opportunities, sports and physical activity

In January 2017 StreetGames took part in the kick-off meeting for a new EU-supported project called Integration of Refugees through Sport, which brings together seven European organisations in promoting inclusion through sport and physical activity. The project is led by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA).
The current influx of refugees and immigrants is one of the biggest political and practical challenges for many countries today, both on a political and citizens’ level. This project uses the power of local grassroots sport initiatives to include people with very different backgrounds, by offering them the important, and well-documented, informal learning that takes places in local sport clubs and the sporting activities themselves.

The project partners will draw on their experiences to collect good examples, develop innovative e-learning, online platforms, videos and toolkits and share good practice so that other organisations working with refugees can learn and develop their work.

The project will run until October 2019 and we will keep you up-to-date with the developments and opportunities as it unfolds.

Project partners:

  • Coordinator: ISCA
  • Organisations: StreetGames (UK), Academy of Physical Education Ollerup (DEN), SISU Västergötland (SWE), UISP (ITA), University of Kent (UK), DTJ (GER)

The IRTS team are all smiles after a productive few days discovering Copenhagen and discussing the next steps for the project during the kick off meeting in January.
