Claire is a Great Britain women’s foil fencer who narrowly missed out on selection for London 2012. As captain of England, Claire won individual bronze and team gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Fencing Games and has represented Great Britain in European and world championships since the age of 14.

Whilst studying for her modern languages degree at Durham University she was British Universities fencing champion. At Durham Claire coached in the local community and currently coaches at a school in west London. She is acutely aware that fencing is a minority sport in the UK, often wrongly perceived as elitist and expensive. However, more and more people are taking it up and membership of British Fencing has doubled in the last few years.

What Claire says about Us Girls

“The sports charity Us Girls gives young women and girls the opportunity to get active, meet friends and have some fun. I’ve provided fencing coaching sessions at the Us Girls Rocks Festivals and it was great to see everyone trying the sport for the first time.”
