Four StreetGames young volunteers have recently returned from Euro 2012 – though the nature of their trip was altogether more altruistic than the average travelling England fan.

Four young StreetGames volunteers from Tyneside have travelled to Poland this week to help give their Polish counterparts a positive sporting experience during Euro 2012.

The quartet are taking football coaching sessions in schools and even running a European Championship-themed football tournament inside a young offenders institute for 160 young men in Warsaw.

The four are Craig Robson (23), Stephen Black (25), Michael Gardner (21) and Jamie Parsons (23) who all began volunteering with StreetGames.

North East Young Volunteers in running for V award

A Co-operative StreetGames Young Volunteers team in North Tyneside is in the running for a top award after using football to tackle anti-social behaviour in the borough.

North Tyneside Council's StreetGames has reached the finals of the vInspired national awards - the largest youth volunteering awards in the country.

StreetGames project wins vinspired award

North Tyneside StreetGames has won the North East regional Team of the Year in the vinspired Awards 2012. It is also shortlisted for the national awards which will take place in March.

The volunteering team, which is part of The Co-operative StreetGames Young Volunteers programme (CSYV), received the award for its work reducing alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and crime in North Tyneside.

Swimming success in the North East

Newcastle City Council's StreetGames project has gone from strength to strength this winter thanks to the introduction of swimming.

The project now offers a mix of multi-sport and swimming sessions in areas of high-deprivation in the west end of Newcastle. The swimming activities on offer include water polo, volleyball and inflatables.
