Former StreetGames participant Callam Jones won his eighth cap for England under 17s yesterday as the Young Lions beat their Welsh counterparts 1-0. The squad is in Tallinn for a series of fixtures to determine qualification for the European under-17 championships. Having beaten Estonia in the previous fixture, England know that a win over Northern Ireland on Friday will see them top the table ahead of the Elite Round draw in early December.

Callam, who plays at centre back, got involved with StreetGames at the ‘turn up and play’ sessions at George Salter Academy and has become a role model with his progression to the West Bromwich Albion Academy and England age group teams.

StreetGames is extremely proud of Callam and wishes him all the best as he continues his footballing career.

Rus Smith, Callam’s project leader at George Salter, said: “It was good to see George Salter’s very own, Callam Jones, play 90 minutes yesterday as a part of the England U-17 team against Wales at the European championships. Callam now has eight caps and from his beginnings at StreetGames ‘turn up and play’ sessions to now being a member of the Young Lions make all at George Salter very proud.”
