Second StreetGames star makes England debut
Callam Jones, a young footballer who was part of the George Salter StreetGames project, made his debut for England U16s today in their match against Spain.
Callam, a defender, played the full 90 minutes as the Young Lions beat their Spanish hosts 1-0 at La Ciudad del Futbol de las Rozas in Madrid.
The George Salter Academy works with disadvantaged young people in West Bromwich and Callam embodies the StreetGames doorstep sport approach, living, as he does, on the street next to the Academy.
Callam is one of two George Salter StreetGames project attendees who are members of local Premier League side West Bromwich Albion FC's academy - the other being Wesley Aitkinson – and by representing his country he follows in the footsteps of another StreetGames participant, Mason Bennett. At the age of 15 Mason is already an England U17 international and Derby County first team player, having started his football career at the Shirebrook Academy StreetGames project in Nottinghamshire.
StreetGames would like to congratulate Callam on his remarkable achievement and wish him the best in his footballing career.
