A “once in a lifetime opportunity” is how StreetGames participant Arianna Sarchet yesterday described her role working as part of the Coca-Cola venue operations team in the Olympic Park during London 2012.

Eighteen year old Arianna has been part of the StreetGames project in Pendle since the age of 14, progressing from participant to become a Level 1 gymnastics coach, and it is through StreetGames’ relationship with Coca-Cola Great Britain – the first year anniversary of which was celebrated yesterday (1st February) at a reception in the Houses of Parliament - that she will have the chance to work at the Games.

Yesterday’s event in the Attlee Suite in Parliament was kindly sponsored by David Burrowes and Andy Slaughter, MPs for Enfield Southgate and Hammersmith, respectively. It was attended by figures from across the business and sports sectors including representatives from London 2012, Sport England and Grant Thornton, as well as MPs Don Foster, Andrew Stephenson and StreetGames Ambassador Niall Graham. Attendees were treated to a street dance performance from the StreetGames project in Newham and table tennis from the Poplar HARCA StreetGames project in Tower Hamlets.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the benefits that our partnership with Coca-Cola Great Britain has brought to the StreetGames network. These include improving the sporting experience for over 110,000 young people, giving 46 StreetGames participants the chance to join the Coca-Cola venue operations team at the Games and the establishment of the StreetGames Training Academy, creating a sports infrastructure in deprived areas.

Jon Woods, General Manager of Coca-Cola Great Britain, said of the partnership: “We are determined that our involvement with StreetGames and with London 2012 will leave a lasting positive legacy - not just for our business but also for the wider community.”

Jane Ashworth, CEO of StreetGames, said: “Through StreetGames – Legacy Leaders we are bringing a sports participation legacy to young people in deprived areas and we are therefore fortunate to have a partner in Coca-Cola Great Britain that has sponsored the Olympic Games since 1928.”
