What are Doorstep Sport Clubs?
Doorstep Sport Clubs are our Olympic Legacy. The clubs will change the sporting landscape in 1,000 deprived communities across the county and give young people a chance to develop a sporting habit for life. We expect over 85% of club members to live in the 20% most deprived communities of England.
The clubs will be for the community - those who enjoy sport in school as well as those who do not warm to PE. They will be fun, sociable and have a strong element of youth leadership. There will be a varied diet of competitive and non-competitive sports. Talented youngsters will be encouraged to join in the development programme of their chosen sport's governing body.
The coaches who run the clubs will be special people - skilled in leading sport as well as in supporting young people to make the best of themselves. The young volunteers who co-run the clubs will gain new skills and qualifications and grow as they learn to lead.
Sport England is the organisation brave enough to invest in doorstep sport. It is new, it is informal and it gives young people inspired by London 2012 the chance to get off their sofas and get down to sport.
StreetGames is in the test period of Doorstep Sport Clubs – establishing best practice and preparing for a nationwide launch in 2013.
Over the next few weeks StreetGames will be making announcements about exciting new ambassadors for the Doorstep Sport Clubs and about more businesses and charitable funders joining us to make the clubs sustainable.

History
In January 2012, the new Government and Sport England’s 2013-2017 Youth Sport Strategy - Creating a sporting habit for life - was launched. StreetGames’ role in the strategy is to lead the creation of a large network of new Doorstep Sport Clubs for young people (aged 14-25 years old) in deprived areas. The new Doorstep Sport Clubs will draw on the increasing expertise of a large number of agencies delivering doorstep sport – sport at the right time, for the right price, in the right place and in the right style.
In agreement with Sport England, StreetGames will initially test different types of clubs between September 2012 and March 2013. After this testing period, StreetGames will manage the roll out of the 1,000 new Doorstep Sport Clubs, subject to Sport England funding.
