Sport England - Sport England is the brand name for the English Sports Council and is a non-departmental public body under the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Its role is to build the foundations of a community sport system by working with national governing bodies of sport, and other funded partners, to grow the number of people doing sport; sustain participation levels; and help more talented people from all backgrounds excel by identifying them early, nurturing them, and helping them move up to the elite level.
Department for Culture Media and Sport – The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is the government department responsible for government policy on the arts, sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums, galleries, broadcasting, film, the music industry, the press, licensing, gambling and the historic environment.
Department for Communities and Local Government – The Department for Communities and Local Government sets policy on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. It has responsibility for all race equality and community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales.
Neighbourhood Statistics Service (NeSS) – A service of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the NeSS provides relevant and comprehensive information, allowing users to paint a picture of life in communities. NeSS contains over 300 datasets, covering health, housing, education, deprivation, age, ethnicity and 2001 Census data; around 1 billion counts of information; data down to neighbourhood level (often to areas of around 250 people in size); on-line e-learning to guide users through the site; and a statistical toolkit to help users understand the data.
The Institute Community of Cohesion – The Institute of Community Cohesion was established in 2005 to provide a new approach to race, diversity and multiculturalism. Its work focuses on building positive and harmonious community relations, using applied research to constantly develop practice and to build capacity of all the agencies and individuals involved.
Local Government Association (LGA) – The LGA, based in Westminster is a voluntary lobbying organisation, acting as the voice of the local government sector and an authoritative and effective advocate on its behalf.
