This July, the department of Health and Social Care unveiled a new Green Paper aimed at capturing feedback relating to the treatment of preventable illnesses. The new consultation, which will remain open from now until 11.59pm on Monday 14th October, seeks input on the government’s latest wave of proposals to better the standards of health and activity throughout England.

StreetGames recognises the core concerns raised by the Green Paper and urges the Government to:

  • Fully implement the existing policies and strategies, such as ’Sporting Future’, that work to support health and wellbeing
  • Recognise the role of sport and physical activity, not just in contributing to healthy weight management but across a wide range of health and wellbeing outcomes, not least young people’s mental health
  • Address the inequalities present in poorer communities that serve to reduce access to sport and other active opportunities - issues that make disadvantaged young people's lives that much more difficult
