Coach Core is looking for 20 young people to support and enhance the delivery of a number of partner organisations in the Manchester area. Upon application, you will be asked to provide three preferred sports choices, which will be shared with employers. Assuming you are eligible for the programme, you will be invited to attend a practical recruitment event, where you will meet all employers and other applicants, and will be asked to take part in a range of practical activities. Following this recruitment event, the final successful cohort of apprentices will be selected. If you are unsuccessful at the recruitment phase, you will be provided with feedback from employers and a range of alternative options, which will be made available to you post event. 

Successful applicants will work 30 hours per week with their employers, which includes 1-2 education days, where you will be working with a dedicated tutor, along with your other apprentices. Coach Core Manchester will be working with a hugely diverse range of employers, including: Sports Group, Salford Red Devils, Lancashire Cricket Club, Tom Luke Tennis, Manchester Giants, Street League, Diane Modahl Sports Foundation, Life Leisure, Link4Life, Urban Fitness Collective, Wythenshawe Forum Trust, Salford Community Leisure, Burnley Leisure, Manchester Youth Community Champions and Access Sport. You will be given the opportunity to access exciting training, development and events through these partners- to give you a varied experience across a range of activities.
Your first 3 months will be very intense! We want you not only undertaking a number of key modules but also getting used to be moving around to different locations. You must be organised and ready to work hard.

Training Provider


Training to be provided includes:

  • Level 2 Community Activator Coach Qualification which will enable the Apprentice to lead sessions and understand participants which prepare them to work in the physical activity & community sport sector.
  • Opportunities to gain National Governing Body Coaching Awards, Doorstep Sport Workshops, Behaviour Change Workshops and other accredited qualifications including 1st4Sport & Royal Society of Public Health.
  • English and Maths – Prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA), Apprentices will need to have achieved Level 1 Maths & English (if necessary)
  • Professional Recognition: On successful completion of the Standard, all Apprentices will be automatically given CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) at Associate Membership level.

Passion and interest across a range of sports and a desire to support/develop others. Willingness to try new activities and to support both other apprentices and the wider consortium with ongoing events, activites and opportunities.

Future Prospects

Coach Core will open up a range of opportunities, both within the sports sector and beyond. Previous graduates have gone on to work for Professional Sports Club Foundations, National Governing Bodies, Charities, Leisure Providers, Schools and more.
