StreetGames and Aston Villa Foundation announce new Birmingham collaboration to widen opportunity for young people

StreetGames and Aston Villa Foundation are collaborating to create better opportunities for children and young people across Birmingham, particularly those from underserved communities.

The need brings together two organisations that believe in the power of sport and physical activity to tackle inequality, using approaches that are rooted in local communities and built on trusted relationships. By combining StreetGames’ strong community connections and insight with the Foundation’s facilities, delivery expertise and progression routes, the collaboration aims to make it easier for young people to move from taking part in sport through to developing skills, gaining qualifications and accessing volunteering, education and employment opportunities.

The Foundation and StreetGames will focus on reducing barriers to participation, designing inclusive and youthfocused programmes, and ensuring young people’s voices help shape the opportunities available to them. The emphasis will be on longterm impact – building capability within communities and creating sustainable pathways rather than shortterm or isolated activity.

With both organisations deeply embedded in Birmingham, this cooperative venture reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the local ecosystem and ensuring young people can access joinedup, inclusive opportunities close to where they live.

Jen Carter, Place Director at StreetGames, said:
“Working with the Aston Villa Foundation brings together two organisations that share a deep commitment to tackling inequality and creating better opportunities for young people. By joining forces, we can help create clearer, more joinedup journeys for young people in Birmingham – supporting them not just to take part in sport, but to build confidence, skills and pathways into leadership, education and employment.”

Ross Alexander, Head of Foundation at Aston Villa Foundation, said:
“This collaboration will enable us to reach more young people across Birmingham and provide them with opportunities to take part in sport, as well as utilising knowledge, insight and experience from a skilled workforce to support and break down barriers to those young people in Birmingham who need it the most.”
