As a landmark summer of sport shines a spotlight on elite competition – from the Men’s Football World Cup to Wimbledon – the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships is ensuring the conversation about participation and inclusion extends beyond the world’s biggest stages into local communities. 

Participants and their families came together on 10th July to celebrate the success of their local Squad Girls programme with a fun-filled football festival. 

More than 25 National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and key partners came together for a StreetGames-led engagement event focused on creating more opportunities for young people living in low-income, under-served communities to engage with sport and physical activity.  

StreetGames is urging supporters, partners and communities to back a national petition calling on the UK Government to protect access to the Holiday Activities and Food programme for children and young people eligible for income-based Free School Meals.
