StreetGames attends party conferences to ensure that the voices of our community partners and the young people they support are listened to by national and local politicians.
What we’ll be doing at the 2026 party conferences
Liberal Democrats — Monday 21st September, Brighton
9:30-11am: Our CEO Mark Lawrie OBE will be hosting a table discussion with senior politicians focused on community sport at the Youth & Skills Day, run by the Youth Zone.
Labour — Monday 28th September, Liverpool
3-4pm, Youth Zone – Theatre Two: We’ll be hosting a panel focused on joining the dots across multiple policy areas for children and young people living in deprived communities, and the positive connection to sport and physical activity.
The panel will explore how the Youth Strategy, Pride in Place, the Cohesion Action Plan, Youth Futures initiatives, Neighbourhood Health, and facilities investment can work together to deliver stronger prevention, social cohesion, employability, health and community safety outcomes. Panellists will discuss how the Government can maximise impact from sporting activity to play a greater role in supporting young people in low-income and under-served communities by aligning local and national initiatives around shared outcomes while delivering value for taxpayers through early intervention.
The panel will be introduced by Young Advisors Bartek and Logan.
Conservatives — Monday 5th October, Birmingham
3-4pm, Youth Zone Theatre, mezzanine: We’ll be hosting a panel with the theme: Opportunity, Employability and Safer Futures: The Role of Sport in Supporting Young People.
This session will explore how investment in sporting activity can support social mobility, improve health, reduce anti-social behaviour and strengthen community cohesion, particularly in disadvantaged areas. Panellists will discuss how policymakers can maximise impact by aligning local and national initiatives around shared outcomes while delivering value for taxpayers through early intervention.
The panel will be introduced by Young Advisors Isobel and Mason.

StreetGames attended the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Conservative party conferences in 2025, continuing our work to champion the role of community sport in tackling inequalities and improving young people’s lives.
Liberal Democrats party conference
Our CEO Mark Lawrie OBE hosted a Youth Zone table discussion, focusing on the role of community sport in youth policy and taking a prevention first approach to supporting and changing the lives of young people living in underserved communities.
Labour party conference
StreetGames chaired a panel in the Youth and Skills Zone, examining how community sport can drive a prevention-first approach to tackle inequalities faced by disadvantaged young people. Opened by Young Advisors Ikram and Mubarakat and chaired by Andy Reed OBE, the panel also included Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, Dan Price, Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, and StreetGames CEO Mark Lawrie OBE.
The discussion focused on how Labour could harness the untapped potential of community sport to break down barriers and deliver its missions locally, regionally and nationally.
Conservative party conference
StreetGames chaired a panel in the Youth Zone, hosted by Baroness Amanda Sater (Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sport and Physical Activity) and introduced by Young Advisor Andres. Panellists included Louie French MP, Shadow Minister for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, Caroline Dinenage MP, Chair of the CMS Select Committee, Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Cllr Louise McKinlay, Deputy Chair, LGA Culture, Tourism and Sport Committee, and StreetGames CEO Mark Lawrie OBE.
This panel explored whether the Conservatives should develop a cross-departmental sports policy centred around community sport, and whether this is best done at national, regional or local level.
2024
StreetGames attended both the Labour and Conservative party conferences in 2024.
At each conference, we hosted a Youth Zone panel discussion exploring how integrated sport and youth policy can support wider social outcomes.
Labour party conference
Our CEO Mark Lawrie OBE joined a panel chaired by Andy Reed OBE, alongside contributions from our Young Advisors, Mia and Arissa, who opened the session by sharing the impact of community sport in their own lives. We were also joined by Steph Peacock MP, Minister for Sport, Tourism, Civil Society & Youth. The discussion focused on how sport can contribute to Labour’s missions around health, opportunity, and safer communities.

Conservative party conference
Our Director of Strategic Business Relationships Stuart Felce chaired a panel that examined whether the Conservatives should push for better-integrated sport and youth policy to tackle inequalities, youth crime and inactivity. The conversation also reflected on progress made through the 2023 Sports Strategy and the National Physical Activity Taskforce, with valuable input from the National Youth Agency.
