StreetGames Multi Skills Activator

This workshop provides participants with a multi-skill approach to coaching young people in their local community. The workshop will provide a chance to experience games across a range of sporting categories and learners will combine their existing coaching and leadership skills and experience with the games, adaptations and top tips within the workshop to engage young people in multi-sports. We also offer this workshop with a focus on a specific sport – see below “Sport Specific Activator Workshops” for more information.

StreetGames Activator Essentials

Our Activator Essentials workshop is popular with Colleges and Universities looking to upskill their student workforce in methods of effective ‘on campus Activation’. We will discuss the principles of activation and what skills and qualities make a good activator. It aims to provide participants with a toolkit of ways to adapt, modify and engage participants meaningfully with a range of different ice-breakers, energisers, team builders and small sided games.

Understanding Behaviour That May Challenge

The workshop explores how sport can be used as an engagement tool to address social exclusion, anti-social behaviour and community tension and build stronger communities. Participants learn the characteristics of ‘hard to reach’ young people and how to effectively engage with them. They are shown how to recognise the causes and triggers of anti-social behaviour and they explore the development of tools and skills that enable young people to take ownership of their issues and effectively understand behaviour that may challenge.

Planning and Managing Events

Our Planning and Managing Events workshop provides students with a framework to organise and manage community sports events. We discuss the importance of recognising participants’ needs as well as the pre-event, on-the-day and post-event tasks. We also discuss guidance on the promotion and marketing of events and how to create, share and realise your vision.

Engaging Women and Girls

This workshop explains the sporting needs of young women and girls, and defines the techniques for delivering successful sports programmes for young women. We identify the motivations, barriers and solutions to engagement and explore how to design and deliver what women want. The workshop covers what works to both engage and retain female participants and includes case studies from projects that are successfully engaging females.

Sport Specific Activator Workshops

Activator Workshops provide an informal introduction to a new sport or activity and enable participants to facilitate activities within a community setting.

These workshops enable learners to lead modified versions of the sport or activity in a variety of settings, and with minimal equipment. There is a focus on fun and adaptation, rather than technical ability. Drawing on the principles of teaching games for understanding, they provide numerous activities to enable interaction with young people and understand their motivations.

Developed in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) these workshops:

  • Support young volunteers’ journey into sports leadership & coaching
  • Provide new games & challenges to keep experienced youth, sport & community workers’ offer fresh
  • Prepare Further & Higher Education students for work in community settings

Go Further, Go Higher in action

StreetGames were delighted to support BUCS with the delivery of our Football Workshop, which formed part of their Football Activators Day. Around 70 young people attended sessions in Leeds and Reading with the aim of learning new skills to deliver sessions both at their university and in their local community.
