How experiences of sport in childhood & adolescence can influence behaviours, attitudes & wider lives in adulthood

At StreetGames we are passionate about bringing sport to young people’s doorsteps and amplifying their voices.

Sadly, national data continues to show much lower rates of sports participation, volunteering and spectating amongst young people from low affluence households – with a range of barriers making it more difficult for them to take part.

However, we also hear many positive stories from young people in the StreetGames network about how sport has played a positive role in their lives; but often these positive stories don’t get heard or get lost behind the big statistics.   That’s why we wanted to undertake new research to capture and amplify these positive stories and share information about how positive impacts were formed in real lives.

In order to build on the anecdotal stories we hear, we commissioned 2CV to undertake independent research on our behalf with a group of young adults aged 18-40 who had grown up in low-income households / underserved communities to explore their experiences of sport in childhood and adolescence and how it had impacted on their lives now.
