Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) & Trauma Informed Practice Training in Doorstep Sport

Format: 3 Hours
Minimum Age: 16 years old
Delivery Method: Face-to-face and online, up to 20 participants

The workshop explores Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) & the short & long-term impact on Young People’s health. The stress response & impact ACEs have on the body. Our role in using sport to build resilience and starting to think about how to build a ‘Trauma Informed approach’ in sport. Based on the latest research of health & wellbeing, this workshop will give learners a foundation of what is going on in a young person’s body, the short and long-term impact this has on the behaviour and how we can make small changes by being trauma-informed to achieve better life outcomes for young people through the wholly inclusive and universal power of sport.

Within these workshops, participants will explore the 5 Trauma Informed Principles of: Safety, Trust, Collaboration, Choice & Empowerment, how these are foundations to the way we work at StreetGames & how we embed these within the work we do both externally and internally together as peers. Being trauma-informed is fundamentally about creating space where people feel safe, kindness and compassion, asking ‘What’s happened’ as opposed to ‘What’s wrong’, understanding what’s going on in the body, to help young people to make sense of their feelings and fundamentally the power of human connection.
