Molly’s journey of growth at Anfield Sports and Community Centre

Case Study

This International Women’s Day we’re shining a light on the success stories of young women and girls within the StreetGames network to inspire and motivate others.

Molly Wardle, 20, hails from Liverpool and has been involved with the Anfield Sports and Community Centre for over 13 years. She initially joined the local community centre’s half-term camps, where she explored and enjoyed various sports like trampolining, football, and dodgeball.

Over time, Molly transitioned to attending after-school sessions at the centre, drawn by its inclusive atmosphere and diverse range of activities available every day of the week. She particularly appreciated the nutritious meals provided, which encourage younger kids to try new foods. Additionally, Molly found inspiration from the people she met at the centre, motivating her to challenge herself and strive for more.

At the age of 12, Molly became a volunteer and young leader, joining the Youth Advisory Board. This role significantly boosted her confidence and provided her with a platform to voice her opinions, allowing her to advocate for young people in her local community. Molly took advantage of the opportunities offered by the centre to gain qualifications through StreetGames such as the Tennis Activator and level 2 multi-sports coaching badge.

Molly’s dedication paid off when she used the qualifications she obtained through the centre to secure a position at the half-term camp as a sports coach. Molly also had the honour of speaking at national conferences where she was able to highlight the impact of community outreach programmes on her confidence, social skills, and life skills.

Beyond developing skills, Molly formed lifelong friendships with people she met through the half-term camps. She credits the centre with shaping her into the person she is today, teaching her important life lessons and nurturing her leadership qualities.

Currently taking a gap year to travel and explore the world, Molly plans to use her level 2 multi-sports coaching badges to coach sports at Camp America. She aspires to use her qualifications to pursue a career in sports coaching or youth work in the future, acknowledging the invaluable support provided by StreetGames in obtaining her badges.
