Introduction
Since 2021, StreetGames has partnered with Places for People, one of the UK’s leading social housing providers, to deliver Doorstep Sport programmes in communities across England. Doorstep Sport is our proven model for engaging young people in underserved areas, providing easy access to sport and physical activity in the places where they live.
Following the success highlighted in our Year 1 Interim Report, the programme was expanded to six additional areas – Leeds, Hull, Preston, Bedford, Huntingdon and St Neots – bringing the total number of participating communities to 13.
Project Overview
Each project has been co-designed with Locally Trusted Organisations (LTOs), Places for People staff and residents to meet local needs and put young people at the heart of delivery. With the support of a dedicated Doorstep Sport Adviser, LTOs have developed year-round programmes that not only increase opportunities for sport but also address key community issues such as a lack of provision and anti-social behaviour.
Activities have ranged from regular sport sessions to trips and incentives, all designed to create safe, positive spaces for young people. Additional investment in training has also helped develop the local workforce and nurture young leaders, ensuring the benefits of the programme extend well beyond individual sessions and create a lasting impact for each community.
